How Sturgis Academy of Martial Arts is Preparing For Novel Coronavirus/COVID19
** Updated Monday, April 27th, 2020 **
The health and safety of our members is of utmost importance to us and we would like to take the opportunity to let our members know how we are preparing for and handling the Novel Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation. We will use this page (as well as communicate via our Facebook Group and Page and E-Mail) to keep you posted.
We are taking this one day at a time as this is an unprecedented event that is occurring.
Governor Whitmer issued orders for all fitness facilities to close starting from March 16th through May 15th. So, even though we are not holding group classes at SAMA, your training will continue at home!
We officially launched our Remote Training System on March 16th! Even though we are not holding group classes at SAMA, your training will continue at home! Classes have been going great and if you haven’t tried them yet, all you need is a tablet or pc (smartphone can work, but the screens are quite small). These remote classes are live! You will see and hear us, and we will see you. This will allow us to give you specific feedback just like in a normal class. Current members received a text message and announcement on the details for accessing these classes. Call or text us at 269-689-5628 if you did not receive your information.
- Attend remote training/online classes. We are excited to announce that since Monday, March 16th, we have been offering online classes/remote training for all active members. Check our Facebook Members Group for information on how to access these classes. These count as regular attendance credits and will be run just like normal classes, complete with instructor-led drills and feedback.
- If you are unable to attend classes due to illness, we have several training options for you, including our awesome class make-up policy and more. Contact us for details.
- If you foresee yourself being out of class for an extended period of time, please contact us and we will send you a link to our Vacation/Freeze Request Form and we will add your missed time to the end of your Program. Your monthly payment will still be processed – but you won’t lose your time.
CDC PREVENTION STEPS
We are also asking our students to follow the CDC’s prevention steps below to stop the spreading of illnesses. Specifically:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, dry hands with a paper towel, and use the paper towel to turn off the faucet.
Keep your hands away from your nose, mouth, and eyes.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a face mask (not recommended- see website)

TOUGH TIMES NEVER LAST, BUT TOUGH PEOPLE DO
While we recognize the significance of this situation, we also recognize that remaining physically and socially active is an important way to maintain a healthy immune system and mind.
Despite this situation, we believe it is important for kids and adults to maintain as much consistency as possible, within reason.
Our goal, as always, is to provide our members with a positive and inspiring place to feel like you are progressing toward your goals, despite other things that may be going on in your lives. Physical and mental stimulation bring focus, and focus enables the logical, rational thinking we need to complement our emotions. Never stop working on yourself.
We are hoping that everyone will do their part as we take every measure to keep SAMA a safe and clean environment.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.
